Playscape Pioneers Day Camp
A special new camp for children ages 4-7 held in the Rita (Fredenhagen) and John Harvard Early Learning Playscape! Four sessions of hands-on learning and story time will be offered in both May and September 2015. Sign up for all four sessions or just one!

Third Thursday Thinkers
Every third Thursday of the month (June through September), drop by Naper Settlement's Rita (Fredenhagen) and John Harvard Early Learning Playscape to experience history in unexpected ways. Take your young thinkers on a museum adventure, use your senses and discover what makes Illinois unique. Little fingers will experiment with painting, gluing, sticking and creating, while developing fine motor skills.

Date: June 17, July 15, August 19, September 16
Time: 10-10:30 a.m. (Ages: 2-5) and 2-2:30 p.m. (Ages: 5-7)
Cost: Free with paid admission, no registration required.

Discover the animals of Illinois by identifying tracks and signs.

July 16 - Growing Up Wild 
Come explore the sensory garden and see firsthand the growth of plants with a take-home lima
bean experiment


August 20 - Pioneer Life 
Learn about the pioneer experience in Illinois, play traditional games, trade for goods and make a 
wooden bead bracelet.
 

September 17 - Winter Readiness 
Celebrate harvest times and the changing foliage! Work an apple press, try some apple cider and create a 
masterpiece with fall shapes and colors.


Playscape Readers
Date: Wednesdays in June, July, August and September
Time: 11–11:15 a.m. (Ages: 2–5) and 1–1:15 pm (Ages: 5–7)
Cost: Free with paid admission. No registration required.

Find a seat on the quilt for you and your child and enjoy an engaging story time featuring changing seasonal themes.


Pioneer Picnics
Date: Wednesdays in June, July, August and September
Time: 11:30 a.m.–1 p.m.
Cost: Free with paid admission. No registration required. 

Each Wednesday, pack a picnic lunch and join other parents and children to play with pioneer toys and games at the early learning Harvard Playscape. Also stop by the 4 Seasons of Illinois cart to participate in a family learning activity.


Victorian TeaVictorian Tea Party

During this two-hour program, your group can enjoy a Victorian tea party complete with sweet treats, learn about old-fashioned manners, make a special craft and visit the Victorian-era Martin Mitchell Mansion. This party is perfect for girls in kindergarten through 6th grade or as a mother/daughter outing. Attending brownie troops will complete the Manners Try-It.

Cost: $18 per youth (ages 4-17); $10 per adult (after the youth minimum is reached)
Deposit Required: $50 (non-refundable)
Minimum: 12 youth or $215

Time Travel Trip
Step back in time as you explore Naper Settlement. This self-guided tour allows you to follow the development of a typical northern Illinois town growing from a frontier outpost to a thriving agricultural and industrial center. Your trip includes demonstrations of 19th-century trades and lifestyles.

Available: April through October during museum hours; no reservation is required
Cost: $5.50 per youth (ages 4-17); $8 per adult 
Group rates: Call for groups of 20 or more; prepayment is required for a discount
Recommended touring time: Three hours minimum

Your group will visit one of the historic buildings in our 19th-century village, participate in a craft and experience 19th-century life first-hand. Learn more about overnights and nights out.
